It was our third Tuesday game on the spin and we managed to scrape up enough players to put out a side against top of the table White Lion.

We had 12 players available plus Kofi who was running late (well strolling fast). Matt was still dealing with his cup final demons and decided to drop himself for this game, but if we had a penalty he was coming on, hopefully this meant to cheer on the penalty taker!

Snails was back in goal, Butler Right back, Tony left back with Evitt (who seemed to have put the weight back on from last Tuesday) and Neil in the middle (who also appeared to have put on weight since last Tuesday). Right was Manno, Left was Fluff with Lee and Jeremy in the middle. Up front was Barry and Steve, subs were Kofi when he gets here and Matt.

The game was evenly matched and as usual WL had more possession and County looked dangerous on the break. 10 mins in County had a great chance to take the lead, Manno was away on the right and with only the keeper to beat went for power and blasted wide, £1 fine anyone??

WL continued to enjoy possession but our back 4 were in superb form with Evitt winning a lot of tackles and Neil making some important interceptions. But County took the lead midway through the half, Manno played a lovely pass through to Barry who was in on goal and slotted past the keeper, 1-0.

County continued to press and Jeremy was having a great game in the middle of the park, his constant fouling wasn’t impressing the ref though and he finally got booked.

County then got a 2nd from a corner, Manno drilled over a great ball and Jeremy headed home from 5 yards, 2-0.

County continued to press and everyone was working their socks off, the midfield were winning everything and the defence were strong and the front 2 were working their socks off, half time 2-0.

Matt was happy at half time with probably our best half of the season, if we could keep it going the victory would be ours. Matt decided he needed to get in on the action and Tony went off with a bad back, although he then spent 15 mins on the phone and didn’t look like he was in too much pain.

County were under the cosh for first 10 mins but were looking good going forward, Jeremy and Lee were having great games and battling very hard and sometimes fair.

Fluff made way for Kofi with 20 mins left and almost immediately White Lion scored, the player had the ball on the edge of the box and hit a low shot which beat Snails at his near post, 2-1.

County were then struggling until Lee scored with 10 mins remaining, after a bit of a scramble in the box, Lee smashed it in from 5 yards out, 3-1 and surely game over.

White Lion then got another with 5 mins remaining to set up a tense finish. Snails then made a great save in the last minute to deny WL an undeserved point.

A great win which means we have taken maximum points this season against WL, but I am sure we would all swap those points for a cup winner’s medal.

This win keeps us in 7th place and with another game on Thursday again EAOB gives us opportunity to climb the table.
